Membership Membership in the Society is open to all individuals who are real estate appraisers or who have an interest in the profession. Join us at the Candidate level if you are a real estate appraiser or are taking courses towards becoming an appraiser, and then advance to one of our designated classifications, Senior Residential or Senior General. If you are in a related field, such as real estate, banking, attorney, etc., join us as an Affiliate. The process for joining is easy...just one page! Affiliates are professionals in related fields NOT looking for designations. Affiliates include realtors, bankers, mortgage brokers, and other trades related to the appraiser profession. This is NOT a designated classification (see Senior Residential or Senior General below), and Affiliates cannot advance to designated classifications. Affiliates enjoy reduced membership rates and discounts at all Society continuing education seminars. Candidates are real estate appraisers seeking professional designations. This is not a designated classification (see Senior Residential or Senior General below), but Candidates can advance to designated classifications after six months if member is active in attending at least three meetings/seminars and if applicant meets other criteria for designated classifications. The six-month waiting period can be waived at the discretion of the Society for individuals holding similar designations with other appraiser organizations. Candidates enjoy discounts at all Society continuing education seminars. Senior Residential members are those members experienced in performing primarily one- to four-family appraisals. This is a designated classification. These members have the professional endorsement of the Society. They have demonstrated a level of education and experience that entitles them to use the designation assigned, Senior Residential or CSA-R. Senior Residential members are listed in our online Find-an-Appraiser List, our Membership Directory, and our Attorney Desk Reference. Senior Residential members enjoy discounts at all Society continuing education seminars. Senior General members are those members experienced in performing primarily income-producing property appraisals. This is a designated classification. These members have the professional endorsement of the Society. They have demonstrated a level of education and experience that entitles them to use the designation assigned, Senior General or CSA-G. Senior General members are listed in our online Find-an-Appraiser List, our Membership Directory, and our Attorney Desk Reference. Senior General members enjoy discounts at all Society continuing education seminar. Note: If you are a student in one of our appraiser qualifying classes, you may qualify for Student membership. Obtaining a designation from the Columbia Society or other major teaching group speaks volumes to clients who are accessing your ability as a real estate appraiser. Applicants are closely screened during the approval process and must adhere to our Bylaws and Code of Ethics as well as to current USPAP requirements. |
